COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) was established as a project in 1998. The Institute that started its operations in a small building in Islamabad with less than 300 students, has since grown to become a major public-sector university with spacious campuses in 6 cities of Pakistan. It is now conveniently accommodating over 16,000 students taught by more than 1500 qualified faculty members. After receiving the Charter of a Degree Awarding Institution in 2000, the number of graduates produced so far (as of 2009) is 8,047.
The Institute offers 42 degree programmes in: Computer Sciences; Business Administration; Telecommunication and Networking; Electrical Engineering; Health Informatics; Computer Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Environmental Sciences; Mathematics; Electronics; Bioinformatics; Biosciences; Physics; Economics, and Architecture. According to the ranking of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in terms of research productivity, the Institute is at number 7 out of 124 universities of Pakistan. CIIT now also offers scholarships to students from COMSATS’ member countries. |
