Dr. Imtinan Elahi Qureshi holds the degrees of Master of Sci ence in Physics (1971) from Punjab University (Lahore, Pakistan), Master of Philosophy in Theoretical Physics (1972) from Quaid-i-Azam University (Islamabad, Pakistan), and Ph.D (1979) in Physics from the University of Surrey (Guildford, U.K.). He has served in Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission as research scientist and scientific administrator for more than 25 years (1980 – 2005). His areas of specialization include atomic and particle physics.
During the period July 2005 to August 2008, he was posted as Minister (Technical) in the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva, where he represented Pakistan as a member of delegation in the meetings of Conference on Disarmament, Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, United Nations Economic and Social Council’s Commission on Science and Technology for Development. During that period Dr. Qureshi also interacted closely with the intergovernmental organizations based in Geneva, such as CERN, WIPO, WMO and ITU.
As a research scientist he has travelled widely and established research collaborations in basic sciences in different institutions in Europe, China and Latin America. He has been a regular Associate of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics during the period 1995-99. Apart from basic research, Dr. Qureshi has been teaching Physics and holds the title of ‘Adjunct Professor in Physics’ at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
He is a recipient of Pakistan Government’s Civil Award, ‘Tamgha-i-Imtiaz’. Dr. Qureshi is married with one son and a daughter. |
