One of COMSATS’ Centres of Excellence in Pakistan and the top-most IT educational institution of the country according to the rankings of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the COMSA TS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), held its 46th Convocation on September 16, 2012. The convocation ceremony was held concurrently in all campuses with a common segment of the proceedings conducted through Video Conferencing link between the Principal seat in Islamabad and other campuses. A total of 2524 students got their degrees at the Institute’s Islamabad, Abbottabad, Wah, Lahore, Attock, Sahiwal and Vehari Campuses.
The Rector CIIT, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, presided over the ceremony and awarded degrees and medals to successful students. Addressing the gathering, the Rector noted that while knowledge and education are transforming virtually every aspect of today’s world, IT institutions are taking the center stage of academia. These institutions, he believed, have the mandate to help flourish a knowledge-based society in the country, enabling it to face the modern challenges of Globalization.
Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Director COMSATS, Dr. Imtinan Elahi Qureshi, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Governors of CIIT, appreciated the efforts of CIIT leadership, management and faculty for holding a unique convocation ceremony. Congratulating the graduating students, he stated that CIIT is committed to providing the best opportunities for learning and personal development within a caring and supportive environment.
Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Dean Faculty of Business Administration of CIIT (Islamaba d), presented the Campus Report. Mr. Anayat-ur-Rehman, the Deputy Controller of Examinations at CIIT, presented the Scroll to the Rector for his signature, which will subsequently be signed by the Chancellor CIIT, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology.
At Islamabad campus, a total of 729 degrees were awarded in various disciplines. Three hundred and seventy-seven BS degrees were awarded to student of Bioinformatics, Biosciences, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics and Architecture. One hundred and ninety six students were awarded MBA and RBA (Registered Business Analyst) degrees. MS degrees were awarded to 72 students of Faculty of Sciences, 04 students of Faculty of Information Science and Technology, 35 students of Faculty of Business Administration, and 29 Students of Faculty of Engineering. Sixteen Ph.D degrees were also awarded for Sciences (Physics, Biosciences and Mathematics), Information Science and Technology and Business Administration.
At the other campuses of CIIT, BS, MS, MBA and Ph.D degrees were awarded to students of Bioinformatics, Biosciences, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics and Architecture.
On the occasion, the position-holding students from different campuses of CIIT received ‘Chancellor’s’, ‘Institute’ and ‘Campus’ medals for their outstanding academic performance. Moreover, students with distinctions in Mathematics and Architecture received ‘Dr. Q.K Ghori Award’ and ‘Prof. Kausar Bashir Ahmed Award’, respectively.
